PVC Sheets

Introduction

Whether in construction, the automotive industry or in the medical field - PVC sheets are a frequently used material. But what exactly are they and what are their properties? How are they manufactured and how stable are they? This article gives an overview of the versatile material.

What are PVC sheets?

PVC sheets are plastic sheets made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC is a type of plastic used in a variety of products due to its versatility, durability and cost-effectiveness.

The properties of PVC

PVC is characterised by a number of remarkable properties. It is resistant to many chemicals, UV radiation and moisture, making it ideal for use in harsh environments. It is also flame retardant and has good electrical insulation. In addition, PVC can be both hard and soft, depending on the additives used during its manufacture.

How PVC sheets are made

PVC sheet is manufactured by polymerising vinyl chloride monomers. This process results in PVC resin, which is then further processed to obtain the final product. Additives such as plasticisers, stabilisers and fillers can be added to alter the final properties of the PVC. It is then formed into the desired shape through various processes such as calendering, extrusion or injection moulding.

How strong are PVC sheets

PVC sheet is very strong and durable, making it a good choice for many applications. Their resistance to weathering, chemicals and physical influences ensures that they retain their shape and function over long periods of time. In addition, their physical properties can be further adjusted by adding additives such as plasticisers and fillers to increase their stability.

Property Description
