epsotech’s contribution towards more sustainability
Milestones on the green journey and an outlook for the future
Jülich, May 2022 Sustainability is one of the strategic pillars in the transformation process that epsotech started last year. In 2022, epsotech will strengthen its commitment to the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials and further expand its pioneering role.
Climate protection and a functioning circular economy are challenges that can no longer be postponed. The EU’s Green Deal is intended to create the transition to a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy and makes it a mandatory task for companies to drive sustainable developments.
"Above all processes and developments at epsotech stands our credo "we care about plastics", says Rojy Puthukkattuchira, Executive Director Group Research & Development. "Post-industrial recycling (PIR) has been accompanying us for many years. In 2021 however, we embarked on our ambitious journey with PCR materials, pioneering with products containing PO-based Sea Plastics materials and have since expanded our product range to include PE and HIPS-based PCR solutions. Currently, our R&D department is working very intensively on establishing alternative ABS sources that are suitable for thermoforming applications".
epsotech has set itself the goal of substituting at least 30% of its PE product portfolio with postconsumer and sea-based plastics within the coming 5 years. New products such as a PE-based material with 40% PCR and 30% Sea Plastics content, which is used in the case and transport box sector, or 100% Sea Plastics PE solutions for thermoformed displays in the cosmetics area, were already presented at the SKZ thermoforming symposium in Würzburg at the end of April.
Plan processed PE sheets from Sea Plastics have successfully qualified for the retail sector and have been an integral part of sustainable playground equipment for some time. "We are very proud to be part of the first fully recyclable playground made of recycled plastic," says Daniel Hefele, Project Manager Sustainability & Innovations at epsotech since May 2022. "With these and other innovative product solutions, we actively support our customers in achieving their ecological goals."
